Last night was the Season 7 premiere of The Vampire Diaries. I have to admit that I was a little worried about the show not being able to pick up the pace of things with the departure of Nina Dobrev as Elena, but it seems like her leaving is just what we needed to give this show more action and not as much mushy gushy-ness. Even though I do miss Nina Dobrev, I think that her not being on the show makes all of her friends stronger and want to fight for their lives.
This is a full blown SPOILER ALERT if you have not seen the Season 7 Premiere of The Vampire Diaries. Do not scroll any further. Instead take this time to watch the show and then come back because I would hate to ruin it for all of my TVD lovers who have not seen the episode yet. It is definitely worth the watch guys!!
Now let's jump into a recap of The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Episode 1 "Day One of Twenty-Two Thousand, Give or Take."
The story starts off three years into the future with Stefan running into a room with two coffins.
Elena is in one of the coffins and Damon...who looks dead is in the other. Apparently he was in a deep sleep, but Stefan fed him some blood to wake him up. Damon wanted to stay asleep as he waited for Elena to be awoken. However, it looked like Damon was dead for a second so I'm not exactly sure what that's about.
Damon, Alaric, and Bonnie are rendezvousing in Amsterdam, but there's a catch.
Damon has been getting drunk, but Alaric has been portraying for 2 weeks that he has been drunk when he is in fact trying to bring his dead wife back from the dead.
The Heretics are alive and well in Mystic Falls
They consist of 2 men and 3 girls who seem to be fresh out of high school. Lily apparently governs them as "mother."
Lily is searching for a stone.....but does not disclose what it is for.
It is safe to assume that this stone can bring people back from the dead. We see that Alaric has it and even seriously/playfully tells a doctor that he will make make attempts to use it to resurrect Jo, Kai's twin sister, that was murdered by him during their wedding in the season 6 finale.
The Heretics killed all of the police force, except Matt.
Caroline, Stefan, and Matt tried to place a bomb in the house of where Lily was hiding the Heretics, with hopes of blowing them up. However it only enraged them and made them seek revenge by killing the entire police force.
So the gang evacuated the city..
Stefan gave Lily and her "family" the Salvatore home without Damon knowing about it while he was in Amsterdam and Damon proceeded to take matters into his own hands with Bonnie.
When Damon came back into town, he found out about Stefan not trying to fight for their town and instead let Lily take it over with the Heretics. They came to a truce that anyone who enters the town is fair game to be eating or tortured by them. Bonnie proceeds to tell Damon that she wants to fight for her town. So her and Damon kill one of the Heretics.
And Lily didn't take it well...
Sooooooo.....
Enzo chose to side with Lily, drugs Caroline, and kidnaps her.
This is because Damon and Bonnie killed one of the Heretics. Enzo had to prove his allegiance to Lily so he kidnaps Caroline.
Fast forward to the future, Stefan awakens Damon from his coffin and tells him that "she" found them.
We see a woman who has some sort of "Katniss Everdeen" look going on, but we only see the silhouette of her appearance and not her actual face. This woman is someone who made an "x" on Stefan's chest which is also similar to an "x" that is made on one of the other Heretics's neck.
Thoughts about The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Episode 1 Premiere
"Day One of Twenty-Two Thousand, Give or Take"
Caroline and Bonnie have diaries!! The Vampire and Witch Diaries are in full effect. They are tracking everything that happens, so that Elena can read about it when she wakes up. If you guys have been reading my blog series focused on The Vampire Diaries you know that last season I kept stressing the fact that no one ever really wrote in a diary on the show. So I'm glad that they started writing and journal logging what was going on because I feel like it will show more about how the characters are feeling.
Btw, Caroline and Stefan are happening. They have a full make out session and I suppose we will see how this goes. Steroline shippers, it's happening. To be honest, it looks like Stefan is truly in love with Caroline with the way he stares at her. Will Stefan get his happily ever after with Caroline?
Bamon's friendship will continue to flourish. Both Bonnie and Damon declare that they are both stuck with each other and that they will rid the town of the bad guys. I am loving it!
There is a way to bring people back from the dead?!??!? We know that Alaric wants to use this special stone to bring back Jo, buuut who does Lily want to bring back? I believe that it maybe the person who left the "x" marks the spot on Stefan and the other Heretics's neck.
Alaric seems like he is kind of losing it. He goes off on a psychic as he asks for him to reach out to his dead wife. He has been constantly seeing Jo's dead body in the Morgue also. It's kind of creepy, but he plans on bringing her back. If possible, I wonder what side effects will this have on Jo.
I'd also like to say that casting wise, they did a good job because Nora looks like Jo and Louise looks like the twins that died last season.
Also wanted to mention that this will be TVD's first lesbian couple in the series.
Overall, this was a great episode. I loved the opening plot lines. I love that Damon is getting back to how he was and seeing him work together with Bonnie. I am also kind of into this dark journey of bringing his wife back from the dead too, but I started thinking.... if they bring Jo back from the dead.. will the twins still be alive too? Could the line of their witch coven be brought back as well? Just something to think about.
Time for you guys to chime in and tell me what you think.
Who do you think is this person hunting Stefan and Damon?
What do you guys think of the way Season 7 is starting?
