I finally did it. I sang karaoke for the first time and it was amazing even though I sounded like a hurt goat caught in a fan. It was worth the embarrassment though.
Here's what happened this weekend when I sang karaoke for the first time.
I was amped at first...
Before I even arrived... actually the entire day, I was preparing myself. I was excited and giving myself a significant amount of pep talks involving my slaying the karaoke floor.
Then when I actually arrived there and saw all of the people, fear happened.
The anxiety was unlike anything I've ever felt before. It wasn't exactly overwhelming, but it was more so the thought of "How in the world do I actually sound singing?"
I needed a drink..
I decided to dive into alcohol. Well not exactly dive into it, but I wanted something to help relax me. I ordered a "Sex on the Beach." Let's just be honest and say that I am not going to ever be a drinker... Everything I've ever tried in life was awful and I was hoping that the drink I ordered would have given me a different response.
I drank annnnd I realized... I wasn't about the life of drinking.
Again... I will never be a drinker in life. I felt like throwing up the moment after sipping a good one-fifth of the glass.
I anxiously waited for my name to be called.
Of course as time passed, I realized that I shouldn't even be worried about it because so many people had signed up. Plus hearing other people sing off-key helped me feel better.
Then when my name was called...
I felt the fear, but because some of my friends decided to be my background dancers and singers.... The fear wasn't really there. I was just concerned about how awful I sounded.
I did in fact sound like trash, but I had fun. LOL
I sang "Hey Ya" by Outkast. I started forgetting the words though, which was unfortunate. Thank goodness for the lyric board otherwise I would have been booed. Having people dance on the floor and help me sing as I sang off key helped me a lot. I had a really good time overall though.
I definitely encourage all of you who have karaoke on your bucket list to do it. It's extremely fun, especially if you have people supporting you as dancers and back up singers.
I'm even thinking about making it a monthly outting.
