There has been a lot of buzz all over the internet on whether Nina Dobrev will return to The Vampire Diaries to reprise her role as Elena Gilbert in season 8, which will sadly be the last season of The Vampire Diaries series. I personally do miss seeing Nina's face on my screen, (especially as Katherine) but I started contemplating what would happen if Elena did return to TVD.
Here's what I came up with...
Bonnie will die if Elena wakes up.
If you all remember, in the season 6 finale Kai used a spell to connect Bonnie and Elena's lives where only one of them could be awake in the present forcing Damon to choose either his best friend's life or the love of his life, Elena. With this knowledge we know that if Elena is brought back as being apart of the show, Bonnie will have to be nonexistent meaning Bonnie could be dead or she could be a vampire. I kind of doubt that possibility, but it could happen.
Elena will become the focal point..again.
I personally liked Elena's character to an extent. Unfortunately with her being the focal point she was always the damsel in distress for the most part which I did not like. With her being a human again it is very unfortunate that Elena may once again be in harms way.
Elena will bring Damon back to being his regular self...
In the season 7 finale of The Vampire Diaries, Damon had his soul possessed by some sort of evil that we will find out about in the 8th and final season of TVD. Damon's hearing Elena's voice which lured him deeper into the cave is what gave me the notion that Nina Dobrev will be making a comeback to the series as it comes to a close. It is possible that hearing Elena's voice or the presence of Elena will bring Damon back to his regular self to save him from the evil which possesses him.
The tragic ending
In the season 7 finale we saw that Enzo and Damon are going on a killing spree. It is possible that Damon could suck the blood from Elena and with a part of the cure running through her veins..... Damon could very well kill her and become human himself on accident.
I mean, I doubt that would happen.... but it is a possibility.
Elena will return in the end.... years later.
In the series finale, Elena could awaken in a flash forward to the future. I am not exactly sure where her beloved friends will be or what they will be doing, but they could save her return as the best for last. Showing her waking up from her slumber and ready to live her life.... whether Damon will be around is another story.
So that sums up what I think the possibilities are of Elena's return in The Vampire Diaries.
